Slovakia: Improving the sustainability of a forest

Climate change, fires, erosion and diseases can pose a major threat to spruce forests all over the EU. In Slovakia’s Volovec mountains, more than 500.000 new seedlings of mainly beech and maple were planted to safeguard the long-term viability of the forest.
The initiative is strengthening the forest´s biodiversity and production potential and ensures that the forest is healthier and resistant to external influences. In addition, a new road allows to access the forest to carry out important management work and fight fire outbreaks. MORE

Hungary: Renewable energy sources for year-round greenhouse installations

Heating is a significant cost factor for year-round greenhouse installations. With the financial support from LEADER, a small Hungarian family business demonstrates how the switch to renewable energies has significantly reduced the heating costs by about 1/3 while protecting the environment.
