Altfinstermünz

Short description

The geographical location of the barrier of Altfinstermünz, in the deeply carved valley of the River Inn, has always been an important road link (Via Claudia Augusta) connecting Landeck, the Vinschgau and the Engadine.
For many centuries one of the most important north-south border and customs points was located there.

This project is intended as the continuation of measures for revitalisation in the late medieval castle complex of Altfinstermünz which started already in the framework of the Interreg IIIB project VIA CLAUDIA AUGUSTA.
The objective is to make the historical castle again accessible to interested visitors.

Targets and target groups

Altfinstermünz aims at taking visitors to an exciting journey back in time where they can experience history with all their senses.
By creating this historical adventure world, the target group is to be extended beyond visitors interested in history. Especially children, young people, families, school classes and tourists are to be enthused with the historical heritage of this region.

Project implementation and measures

This requires comprehensive constructional measures which are carried out in the course of the project.

By maintaining the alpine pass, a new touristic infrastructure is established which is also part of a regional economic concept. For this reason there is intensive cooperation with the tourism initiatives of the region.
