Short description

To increase the attractiveness of the Gernkogel hiking area the Alpendorf Bergbahnen AG is planning a hiking trail named “Ghost Mountain Alpendorf”. This circular trail is about 1 km long and has different adventure stations. Access to the adventure mountain is with the existing Alpendorf Gondola and, from the latter's summit station, with the new Ghost Train to the starting point of the trail. Visitors enter the world of ghosts via a welcome area with Ghost Village and a ghost shooting stand. A gnome alley for the very small kids, earth spirits with “Krampus” trail, cavern and mountain ghosts, air ghosts and water ghosts with a 150 m long mountain brook which visitors cross twice in the course of the circular trail, are the topics of the adventure mountain.
The stops offer numerous attractions such as a climbing mountain with an air bridge and a flying carpet, a giant dragon with a dragon slide, a snake alley with a field of stinging nettles and many more.

Point of departure

In 1978 the Gernkogel and the mountains surrounding it, like the Sonntagskogel and the Hirschkogel, were opened up for tourism by means of two double chairlifts. In winter there is a network of pistes with Wagrain and Flachau as well as combined tickets with the Ski amadé. During the summer local people and guests can use the Alpendorf Gondola Cableway and the 4SB Panoramabahn to ride up the mountain. To enhance the attractiveness of the Gernkogel area in summertime Alpendorf-Bergbahnen AG is planning a new circular trail with adventure stations and a streamlet. The adventure stations will be dedicated to the topic of earth, mountain, air, and water ghosts.

Targets and target groups

The objective of the project is to enhance the attractiveness of the hiking area and to give momentum to summer tourism in the region St. Johann/Alpendorf.
With the great number of stations in open nature adults and children are encouraged to hike.

Project implementation and measures

A new, approximately 1 km long hiking trail, which is partly barrier-free, is developed. An alpine brook with many branches (streamlets), picnic areas, water playgrounds, stone stairs, water stairs, wood bridges, waterfalls, and a fountain are constructed. Many adventure stations on the subject of ghosts promise games and fun, excitement and adventure in open nature. A new children’s playground at 1700 m above sea is constructed. From the economic point of view spurring summer tourism as well as the maintenance and creation of new jobs have the highest priority.
