Short description

The project “Höhlenpark Wolfsschlucht“ contains the revitalisation of a historic iron mine in the Pongau region. It is the project goal to establish in the mountains tours with different degrees of difficulty, where the participants are on their way on chain bridges, cableways, via ferratas etc. The offer shall be provided all over the year.

Point of departure

Between the communities of Wagrain und Flachau an iron mine existed at an altitude of about 1,400 m above sea level for about 600 years, which was closed down in 1790. Due to this enormous expansion of this historical iron mine it constitutes a unique underground mine in the Federal Province of Salzburg The enormous differences in altitude within the mine building gives a special adventurous character to the visits which cannot be compared to other show mines. The Montanbehörde (mountain authority) welcomes the establishment of a show mine. Furthermore a pre-contract for the utilisation rights for the surrounding area has already been concluded with the Austrian Federal Forests.

Targets and target groups

The objective is to establish some trails at different levels of difficulty, where the participants are on their way on chain bridges, cableways and via ferratas etc. This project constitutes certainly an attractive supplementation of the tourist offer in the Sportwelt Amadé. All-year operation is possible and is planned, even in snow-rich winters.

Project implementation and measures
