Short description

In recent years, the association ‘Mostidylle Südburgenland’, together with the ‘Naturschutzbund Burgenland’ and the ‘Raab Nature Park’, has established the fruit variety conservation garden for the whole of the Burgenland region in the municipality of Kalchberg. This is a project of national importance. The variety garden is now one of the largest conservation gardens in Austria.

This variety garden is now to be filled with life and made even more attractive to the public. Nature and tourism should complement each other. Through guided tours on the adventure trail visitors are intended to be sensitized about nature conservation themes and old fruit varieties. Multilingualism in the Raab-Örseg-Goricko Nature Park will not be neglected.

The aim is to make the variety garden more attractive by setting up theme stations and awareness-raising activities in order to anchor a unique "natural spectacle orchard" (variety garden, cider store and apple path) in the Raab Nature Park.

Point of departure

From 2005 to 2008, the fruit paradise in the Raab Nature Park was established with the help of the ‘Burgenland Nature Conservation Association’ and the ‘Mostidylle Südburgenland’, containing the sections variety garden, cider library and apple path and supplemented by an information house. In particular the variety garden is a project of national importance. With its 256 fruit varieties, it is now one of the largest conservation gardens in Austria.

Now the variety garden is to be filled with life and used for nature-tourism. There is a need for action at the adventure stations, of which there are only a few with an uneven appearance, or in serving the multilingual target group in the ‘Dreiländeraturpark’.

Targets and target groups

The aim is to make the variety garden more attractive by setting up theme stations and awareness-raising activities in order to anchor a unique "natural spectacle orchard" (variety garden, cider library and apple path) in the Raab Nature Park.

The stations should enable visitors to consciously hear, see, smell, taste and understand nature. The information material and the event are aimed at raising awareness.

Project implementation and measures

Measures:

 Construction of adventure stations:

Hearing and speaking tube to communicate with nature

4-sided seasonal tower on a point of force to symbolize the 4 seasons

Installation of microphones in the nesting boxes and transfer to the seminar room

Wooden loungers, dry stone walls, classrooms, beehives, fruit refueling stations, wooden apples...

Microphones in bird's nests...)

- Provision of multilingual information material (brochures, posters, homepage...)

- Implementation of PR measures (media cooperations, advertisements, etc.)
