Beekeeping offensive of the Agricultural Secondary Schools of Lower Austria

Short description

Strong need for information in the field of beekeeping, extension of educational offers for beekeepers in Lower Austria not yet possible to a sufficient degree in Lower Austria at the moment.

Point of departure

In the course of the past 6 years it has been attempted to offer training courses for beekeepers all over the territory of Lower Austria and one has gained positive experiences with that.

Targets and target groups

To extend the offer of basic training courses all over the Federal Province of Lower Austria in order to find on the one hand new beekeepers and on the other hand to offer existing beekeepers the opportunity of better training and further training.

Project implementation and measures

Development of 5 training locations in Lower Austria where bees are kept and educational offers are provided and/or courses and seminars for beekeepers can be held.

Results and effects

Basic training courses and practical follow-up courses for newcomers in the field of beekeeping

Erfahrung

The number of participants could be doubled in the course of the past few years and the trend still continues. Whereas there were still only 458 participants in 2009/2010 the number of participants in 2010/11 was already 960. More and more young people can be inspired with enthusiasm for beekeeping. Also practising beekeepers reacted very positively on the better offers of training and further training.
